About Us

What Do We Do?

Throughout the day we travel to various locations in Gloucester, greater Cape Ann and the Great Marsh.

In the past we have traveled to Stage Fort Park, Wingaersheek Beach, Halibut Point, Plum Cove Beach, Red Rock, Tablet Rock, Dog Town, Goose Cove, Ravenswood, Ten Pound Island, Eastern Point, Project Adventure headquarters in Beverly, Seven Seas Whale Watch, Good Harbor Beach, Half Moon Beach and Niles Beach. We have also visited the Cape Ann Historical Museum, Peabody Essex Museum, the New England Whale center and Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center.

We travel each day according to a prearranged itinerary for various activities, studies and adventure. Parents are given a copy of the itinerary when camp begins; the itinerary is subject to change depending on variable  factors such as sudden weather changes.

We are an adventure day travel camp. Our campers are outdoors in nature everyday except for when dangerous weather conditions merit the need to be sheltered.

Curiosity, inquiry, problem solving, risk taking, confidence, realization, compassion, caring, intellect, integrity, positive group interaction are among the qualities we seek to foster in campers of all ages.

GMS also concentrates on such goals as the ability to work in small groups toward the completion of tasks, conflict resolution, increased self-awareness and real self-confidence based on real personal accomplishments.

GMS uses beaches and other natural and historical areas throughout Essex County in order for our campers to share in the unique activities our community has to offer.

GMS draws on the estuarine environment, local woodlands and wetlands to involve participants in a variety of different physical challenges and educational activities including: adventure games, problem solving, rock climbing, bouldering, orienteering, building hermit huts, tide pooling, marine studies, nature studies, environmental stewardship, hiking, dory rowing, outdoor safety, swimming, snorkeling and camping.

GMS also seeks to foster an understanding and appreciation of the social and physical environment of Cape Ann, through exposing campers to the wonderful natural world around them, educating them in the history and development of Gloucester and Cape Ann as well as exploring the area’s natural and economical resources to promote lifelong environmental stewardship.
