Experiential Education

Experiential Learning is learning through doing and this learning style leads to a wonderful experience that is truly genuine to the camper. Experiential learning is comprised of self-initiated individual participation that has an all-encompassing effects on the camper. We have found that experiential learning corresponds to real personal change and growth.

GMS strives to facilitate learning through providing an emotionally protected, physically safe, organized, non-competitive, encouraging camp atmosphere in which campers can explore choice and challenge from which they will find personal growth.

GMS’ Environmental Educational facet aims to connect campers to nature in a very real way by assisting campers to increase their awareness about Cape Ann ’s natural environment.

We expose and educate campers in such ways as understanding how our local ecosystems work as well as the impact of people on this natural environment as well as assisting campers to develop eco-friendly practices such as producing less unnecessary litter.

Another aspect of our environmental mandate is to raise recycling awareness and the impact it can have on the natural environment.

GMS also strives to foster improve perceptions and understandings that affirm and reaffirm the value of our surrounding natural world, thus prompting environmental stewardship in our campers.

Environmental Education combined with the other aspects of the GMS program offers campers an authentic nature experience that will impact their lives well beyond camp.
