The Gloucester Museum School Adventure Summer Camp fosters a child’s innate sense of wonder and connection to the natural world. This is truly an outdoor camp located right on Cape Ann.
Founded in 1978 by the Gloucester Youth Commission, the camp offers an array of programs for all ages.
All programs are age appropriate and seek to develop character and community bonds through authentic experiential learning. All GMS campers experience the adventures and challenges of outdoor exploration as well as developing activity-based group interaction skills. All done in a setting of teaching appreciation for Cape Anne’s unique natural environment.
We are committed to fostering a sense of social and environmental responsibility in a manner that engages and excites a child’s imagination, natural curiosity, and a sense of adventure.
At Gloucester Museum School Adventure Camp
GMS campers spend their days exploring the diverse landscapes and habitats of Cape Ann, from the marshes to the tide pools dotting our rocky shores. This full immersion into the natural world offers an excellent counter-point to the classroom, allowing kids to acquire a unique perspective of our environment while building community bonds and lasting friendships.
Every day your child attends GMS camp is an opportunity for transformative experiential education, a form of personal and communal growth that looks and feels a lot like fun. By implementing fundamental Project Adventure principles, such as The Full Value Contract and Challenge by Choice, both guiding principles for adventure learning.
Every day we seek to instill an appreciation of the environment and an understanding of ones-self in relationship to others in our campers. By the end of each session, GMS campers will have learned more about themselves and the world in which they live.
